| The enjoyment of the Barranquilla Carnival is not just from the parade but the action in the stands and the merriment around town. The mood is festive and friendly. Parade spectators will share their drinks (a squirt of whiskey) and food. Canned white foam is the toy of choice for the playful spraying of your neighbors. It is a great opportunity for you and your date to be kids for the day. It would not be unusual for late arrivals to walk up into the stands and be covered in white foam by the time they find a seat. |

| As a gringo (and this term carries no negative connotation in Colombia) you will attract positive attention. There will be many Colombian visitors from out of town and you may be approached by families or individuals who will speak English that will want to know about you and share information about their lives. This warmth is very unusual to experience from strangers but happens quite often in Colombia. Visitors for the Barranquilla Carnival should book reservations months in advance. Carnival week is a good time to visit your Colombian fiancé or girlfriend but not the best time for our Personal Introductions. Try the rest of the year for that. |
